Joint research agendas form the substance around which practice partners and researchers come together. The agendas are shaped around problems of practice, policy, and implementation.
Partners on the practice or policy side face pressures and priorities that significantly shape the research agenda that emerges. Research questions, then, must balance such concerns with the research partners’ own needs and interests, which may not initially align with practice and policy concerns and timelines. Developing a stance of “humble clarity” about needs and interests from all stakeholders, and a respect for what each entity brings to the table, may inform the ways in which the research comes to life and becomes rooted in the practical realities and goals on all sides of the partnership.
